On, September 11th I went with Laurie Tietjen, my dad and mini horses Hamlet and Honor to visit the police and fire departments of New York and New Jersey. Our goal was to put smiles on first responders’ faces. Honor and Hamlet definitely accomplished their job!

Hamlet and Honor are two mini therapy horses who bring comfort and support to policemen, firemen, veterans, and other adults and children. Their organization, Mini Horse Heroes, started in memory of Police Officer Ken Tietjen who gave his life saving others on September 11th, 2001. Ken worked at the Port Authority Police Department. This was one of the places we visited on Sunday.

Mini Horse Meets Police K9 Unit

It was fun to ride along with Honor and Hamlet and help them in and out of the trailer. I liked seeing the smiles they brought to the officers and their children. I also liked visiting the police horses in the mounted unit and seeing how they reacted to the their much smaller brothers.
